Blogging for real!

I’m very excited about my quarter, not only in a personally, but also professionally. This quarter offers me a real chance to delve into my major and acquire experiences and pieces for my portfolio.

Maybe this sounds lame or cliche. How is it, you ask, that three basic introductory journalism classes will lend a helping hand in my career? It’s actually quite simple.

1. News Writing. Pretty self-explanatory. It’s finally an opportunity for me to write. Granted, I hate the idea of writing for a newspaper, but it is writing nonetheless.

2. Graphics. Also self-explanatory, but I’m really stoked to have the opportunity to get GOOD at Photoshop and Indesign.

3. Info Gathering. This sounds lame, right? Woooooo! A chance to gather information all quarter. It’s the stupid part of communications. It’s not creative, fun or overly involved. This class, strangely enough, is the one I am most excited about.

The idea behind my Info Gathering class is to understand how to appropriately find credible sources so as to write an appropriate article, feature story, or public relations campaign. As I am a PR major, I had to find a topic to research for creating a PR plan and campaign.

Compliments of a discussion with my business-major boyfriend, I decided to research the ethical issues surrounding the economic crisis. The PR campaign would essentially surround recovering the images of these executives who had their companies blow to pieces.

Like I said, I’m very excited. It’s an opportunity for me to research a legitimate problem and investigate how I, as a public relations professional, would handle it.

The details of my research and other dabblings in PR with ImPRessions this quarter will be the focus of my blog from now on, so be prepared for plenty of ethical issues and organ donor awareness information!
